Northern Light

Originally titled Northern Light, Sonatas from the Düben Collection is our exciting second recording for Delphian Records, exploring instrumental music uncovered in the rare manuscripts of the Düben Collection. This incredible resource at Sweden’s Uppsala University has yielded works of amazing virtuosity, representing a cross-section of some of the finest music from the mid-17th Century.

We’ve focussed on works for two trumpets and strings by Melani, Albrici and Thieme, contrasting these joyful, vibrant works with soulful sonatas by Buxtehude, Kirchhoff and Furchheim.

The programme includes:

Clemens Thieme - Sonata a 8 for two trumpets and strings

Vincenzo Albrici - Sonata a 5 for two trumpets, two violins and bassoon

Alessandro Melani - Sonata a 5 for two trumpets, two violins and bassoon

Johann Fischer - Hetzlich thut mich verlangen - Lamento

Johannes Prentzl - Sonata a 2 for trumpet and bassoon

Andreas Kirchhoff - Sonata a 4 for violin, 2 violas and continuo

We are extremely grateful for the generous support of The Golsoncott Foundation, Angel Early Music and the Gemma Classical Music Trust, not to mention our Friends and Patrons, without whom this project would not be possible.
